Democracy is under attack, and authoritarianism is on the rise, not in some far-off place, but right here at home. There are forces at work that are determined to suppress or disqualify Americans’ votes and make us question the legitimacy, safety, and security of our elections, as well as the legitimacy of our political system.
Democracy Matters Now More Than Ever
The Lincoln Democracy Institute informs people about the nature of authoritarianism at all levels. Pointing out where authoritarianism is taking root and sharing what we, as Americans, can do to stop it. The Lincoln Democracy Institute will also direct people to pro-democracy organizations, elected officials, and candidates.
Democracy Is Worth Fighting For
The Lincoln Democracy Institute operates at the national and state levels to provide real-time information about threats to our democratic system. That may mean repudiating the lies on Fox News or holding accountable a candidate who threatens violence. It could mean shining a light on someone aiming to disrupt voters’ ability to participate. In states where legislatures threaten free and fair elections, we pressure state and local election officials to ensure they do their jobs in the most transparent way possible.

As part of a broad and growing pro-democracy coalition, The Lincoln Democracy Institute will serve as the tip of the spear in providing information and responses to what we see coming from anti-democratic forces in America today. Without continuous counter-programming, calling out bad actors, and highlighting the dangers to our democracy, too many Americans will sleepwalk through the 2022 and 2024 elections.
